چکیده

The increasing use of programmable processor cores in embedded systems which are mainly used in portable devices, creates an intense need for low power operation. Although power has been primarily addressed at the circuit/technology level it has become obvious that power consumption is heavily dependent on the executing software. The goal of this paper is to illustrate the impact of several software decisions on the energy consumption of the underlying hardware and the need to consider power in software design. Key-Words: Software Engineering, Low Power Design, Embedded Systems, Energy Consumption

Assessment of energy efficiency in pump stations of pressurized irrigation systems (case study: Qazvin and Kermanshah provinces)

About 20% of the electricity produced in the world is consumed in rotary equipment for conveying fluids such as water, gas, air, and other liquids, while the loss of energy consumption in this sector is more than 60%. The aim of this study is to evaluate different efficiencies in the pumping stations in the pressurized irrigation systems to address low energy efficiency issues in the pump stati...

SEProf: A high-level software energy profiling tool for an embedded processor enabling power management functions

Energy efficiency has become one of the most important design issues for embedded systems. To examine the power consumption of an embedded system, an energy profiling tool is highly demanded. Although a number of energy profiling tools have been proposed, they are not directly applicable to the embedded processors with power management functions that are widely utilized in battery-operated embe...

Using Dynamic Thermal Rating and Energy Storage Systems Technologies Simultaneously for Optimal Integration and Utilization of Renewable Energy Sources

Nowadays, optimal integration and utilization of renewable energy sources (RES) are of the most challenging issues in power systems. The wind and solar generation units' maximum production may or may not occur at peak consumption times resulting in non-optimal utilization of these resources. As a solution to this problem, energy storage systems (ESS) are embedded in networks. However, the power...

Surface Energy and Elastic Medium Effects on Torsional Vibrational Behavior of Embedded Nanorods

In this paper surface energy and elastic medium effects on torsional vibrational behavior of nanorods are studied. The surface elasticity theory is used to consider the surface energy effects and the elastic medium is modeled as torsional springs attached to the nanorod. At the next step, Hamilton’s principle is utilized to derive governing equations and boundary conditions. Then, with the aid ...

A simulation framework for energy-consumption analysis of OS-driven embedded applications

Energy consumption has become a major focus in the design of embedded systems (e.g., mobile computing and wireless communication devices). In particular, a shift of emphasis from hardware-oriented low-energy design techniques to energy-efficient embedded software design has occurred progressively in the past few years. To that end, various techniques have been developed for the design of energy...
